Roulette Rules

Roulette is a fairly uncomplicated casino game, which relies exclusively on luck, with no skill involved at all. That means that there is really not much (or nothing) that you can do wrong when playing roulette. Should you ever make a mistake, the dealer will most likely let you know.

Before I start explaining the rules, I recommend you download the casino software from one of our recommended internet casinos. Get yourself a guest account and open the Roulette game. Then, you can play Roulette for free, while trying to understand the rules. When opening the roulette game, make sure you open European Roulette, as this should be your game of choice (lowest house edge of the two roulette games (American & European) available).

Roulette is played with a small ball and a wheel that has 37 small pockets (38 in American Roulette) on the wheel in which the ball can fall. Basically, in Roulette, the wheel is spun and the ball is put into the wheel. Then, after a short time, the ball will find one of the pockets on which there is a number. Whatever number the pocket has where the ball falls in wins. Fairly simple and easier to understand when having the software downloaded and the game opened in front of you.

Before the ball finds its pocket, you can bet on the pocket the ball will land in. You have several options with regard to betting.
You can bet on the exact number on which the ball will land. In european roulette, there are a total of 37 numbers (0 to 36) and the payout when guessing the correct number is 35 times your bet and your bet back. So, if you bet $10 on a number and the number you bet on does come, you will get $350 in winnings and your original $10 back.
The pockets are also always colored in either red or black. Each color has 18 pockets, with the 0 being green. Therefore, you can also bet on the color (red or black) of the pocket the ball lands. The payout of this type of bet is 1 to 1, meaning that if you bet $10 and you are correct, you will win $10 and get your original bet back.
Other options of bets paying out 1 to 1 are betting on Odd or Even, or betting on the number of the field being between 1 and 18, or between 19 and 36.
The following bets pay 2 to 1. For every $10 you bet, you will get $20 back plus your original $10 when you are correct. The bets having this payout are bets on in which third the number of the pocket is. For example, you can bet on the number being either between 1 and 12, between 13 and 24 or between 25 and 36. The other bet possible paying 2 to 1 is to bet on the column that the number is in on the numbers field. To understand this part, it's best to look at a roulette table.
There are also some other bets possible. These are bets where you can bet on 2 numbers being located right next to each other on the field. This bets pays 17 to 1. You can also bet on 4 numbers being located right next to each other (the 4 fields of the numbers have one common center). This bets pays 8 to 1.
You can also bet on a row of numbers (three numbers being located next to each other on the field). This bet pays out 11 to 1. Another option would be to bet on two rows at the same time. These two rows would have to be located next to each other. That bet pays out 5 to 1.
